Location & Charactarestics
Space & Features of Location:
The location of the project has been chosen, after long research for the
alternatives in the Middle East. The research concluded to that Mafraq
is suitable, as it is located on an international cross roads that leads
to Syria, Iraq, Arabian Gulf countries, Palestinian Authority and Israel.
The suggested location is adjacent to a railway that comes from Europe
through Turkey and Syria, an airport, and a net of roads.
The location of the project is about 20 kilometers to the south of the
Syrian borders, 270 kilometers to the west of the Iraqi borders, 150 kilometers
to the north of the Saudi borders, 70 kilometers to the east of the Palestinian
Authority and the Israeli borders.
The area of nominated land is about 16 million square meters, which includes
the dry port and administration area, warehouses and showrooms, and the
support area. This huge space will provide the possibility of future expansion.
The location of the project is close to electricity, communications and
water supply resources, which will save in the cost of the infrastructure.
The nominated area is suitable for many touristic investments, as the
area has more than eight major archaeological sites, some of them go back
to 3000 BC.
Total number of tourists was 2395 during 2001, which is expected to increase
in case of the availability of suitable touristic facilities. We planned
a support area that includes touristic facilties with a total space of
1.73 million square meters.
The area is affected by a soft cool breeze that swifts through the Lebanese
mountains (North-West) and the Syrian mountains (North-East). The areas
surrounding the suggested location is fertile, and is now being planted
by fruits and vegetables of the first grade. There are many foreign industrial
and agricultural projects that benefit from free income tax for 12 years.
