Location & Charactarestics

Space & Features of Location:
The location of the project has been chosen, after long research for the alternatives in the Middle East. The research concluded to that Mafraq is suitable, as it is located on an international cross roads that leads to Syria, Iraq, Arabian Gulf countries, Palestinian Authority and Israel.

The suggested location is adjacent to a railway that comes from Europe through Turkey and Syria, an airport, and a net of roads.

The location of the project is about 20 kilometers to the south of the Syrian borders, 270 kilometers to the west of the Iraqi borders, 150 kilometers to the north of the Saudi borders, 70 kilometers to the east of the Palestinian Authority and the Israeli borders.

Space Characteristics:
The area of nominated land is about 16 million square meters, which includes the dry port and administration area, warehouses and showrooms, and the support area. This huge space will provide the possibility of future expansion.

Infrastructure Characteristics:
The location of the project is close to electricity, communications and water supply resources, which will save in the cost of the infrastructure.

Investment Characteristics:
The nominated area is suitable for many touristic investments, as the area has more than eight major archaeological sites, some of them go back to 3000 BC.

Total number of tourists was 2395 during 2001, which is expected to increase in case of the availability of suitable touristic facilities. We planned a support area that includes touristic facilties with a total space of 1.73 million square meters.

Environmental Characteristics:
The area is affected by a soft cool breeze that swifts through the Lebanese mountains (North-West) and the Syrian mountains (North-East). The areas surrounding the suggested location is fertile, and is now being planted by fruits and vegetables of the first grade. There are many foreign industrial and agricultural projects that benefit from free income tax for 12 years.

Legal Status of Land:
The land is owned by the Jordanian Treasury. The joint-liability company contacted the concerned party and got an approval to support the project.

Preliminary Site Plan:
The Urban Planning Engineers of our company prepared the preliminary site plan in accordance with the European Standards, in order to explain the elements of the suggested project (Annex 1).
